Farm Wars

In 2005, I experienced something that rocked my world. It started with an itch about halfway between my right knee and ankle, on the side of my leg. I inspected the area, and saw a couple of small bumps that looked like pimples. By the next day, the affected area had grown from just these few bumps to a dime-sized area filled with them. The itching increased. I sloughed it off to some sort of allergic reaction that would go away shortly. It didn’t. In fact, it grew to the point of keeping me awake at night.

When scratched, the bumps oozed clear liquid. I can best describe what this turned into as the worst case of poison oak rash that anyone has ever endured. This rash spread all the way up my leg to my shoulders, and included the other leg as well. There seemed to be no relief in sight. I got so desperate to ease the itching that I actually bathed in bleach. This DID NOT help. In fact, it only made things worse. Antibiotics did not work, fungicides did not work, steroid creams did not work. NOTHING worked. I was desperate.

I finally determined that the food I was eating must have something to do with it and stopped eating, drinking my pure well water only. The itching seemed to subside. Quite frankly, after making this connection, I was scared to eat! This couldn’t go on for long, so after hunger took over, I slowly started introducing foods into my diet, one item at a time.

It should be noted that during this time, I was told about genetically modified foods (GMOs) and started doing some research. I checked out the labels of all of the processed foods in my kitchen, and found that almost all of them contained known GM ingredients such as corn, soy, beet sugar, and milk containing rBGH hormone. Could this be the cause of my affliction? I would soon find out.

The first foods I started eating were raw fruits and veggies, non-GMO. I had no reaction. So, I added fruit juices without sweetener, tea, and a little coffee. No reaction. I was on the right track. During this time, I lost almost 70 lbs., and looked like a refugee from Auschwitz. But I didn’t itch. And the rash was going away. When the rash got to the point of being bearable, I started experimenting. I tried items that I knew had a very high possibility of containing GMOs. I immediately started itching, and the rash got worse. Cause and effect. When I stopped eating the contaminated food, the itching subsided and the rash got better. I tried this with several foods, one at a time, and sure enough, each one that was most certainly GM, I had a reaction.

It’s been several years now, and I have gained back some of the weight, although not all of it, as I really was a bit on the chunky side. I now grow my own organic veggies, and stay away from any processed food that has any ingredients that might be GM. But was I unique? Was this some sort of affliction that nobody else had? The doctors didn’t know what it was, and had nothing to offer. So I put it down to an individual allergic reaction. Then I ran into Sudhir Kumar Kaura from savefarmer.info on Facebook, and saw this video:

Don't let this happen to you!

Dreaded Skin Affection seen above has become common in people working in BT cotton farms. This photograph shows a 60 year old farm labourer Mr Ram Singh of Village Agroha, (District Hisar, India) being affected by unknown skin disease due to BT cotton. (savefarmer.info)

I wasn’t alone. Someone else was experiencing a horrible itchy skin disease in another country that spread all over his body. And he works in GM fields. Coincidence? I don’t think so. Now I know that there are more people out there who are experiencing the same type of thing, and they haven’t yet figured out that it just may be GMOs that are doing it to them. The doctors will not make the connection. We have to make this connection ourselves. It is not easy, but the only alternative is to live with something that, quite frankly, makes you not want to live at all. And it’s not only the farmers who are getting sick.

Cyanide found in BT Cotton!

The GMO Invasion Continues…

The GM pushers aren’t done yet. In fact, they are working tirelessly to spread GMOs all over the planet. Belize is “nestled between Mexico and Guatemala on the Caribbean coast of Central America,” and it is undergoing its first GM corn trial. For what? For corporate profits at the expense of a natural resource that cannot be replaced, and the contamination of a pure food supply that will most certainly result in the same sort of thing that India is experiencing due to BT cotton.

Belize: People & Culture

Nowhere on earth will you find a friendlier people than the people of Belize. From the moment you arrive, you will feel as comfortable in this small Caribbean country as you do in your own hometown.

The people of Belize have an array of traditions and customs that represent more than 10 diverse cultures. This is truly a melting pot of colorful personalities, making the 314,000 residents of Belize the country’s greatest resource on the tourism front. The Belizean people are comprised of a harmonious combination of Maya, Mestizo, Creole, Garifuna, East Indian, Mennonite, Arab and Chinese, as well as a number of European, American and other expatriates, a combination which has resulted in one of the happiest and most peaceful countries in the region and a widespread reputation as one of the friendliest tourist destinations in the world!

Help raise awareness in Belize!

Get involved, and spread the word. Join the ever-growing movement to alert people to the dangers of genetic modification. First they came for the U.S., but we were so involved with our own lives that we didn’t care. Then they came for India, and we looked the other way. Then they came for Africa, and we said “so what?” Now they are coming for Belize… End the apathy NOW!

Having read this it has made me think. I am a farmer and have had an itching on my ankles. the skin went purple, The Dr. didn’t know what it was, a student 6th year medical student asked me if I had diabetes. I got relief using a product called Bokashi Rub from Indonesia. The skin blemishes appear in summer and go in winter.
Guess what in summer I spray round up in shorts, winter I were long trousers.
Thanks for awakening me, I know what I will be doing in future

    Hello Barbara,

I have “no idea” why I went to the FarmWars website today, but I did and was so relieved to learn that I am not the only human on the planet that has a Rash. From a reaction to “something.”

My rash started this past April/May. Working in the garden planting rasberry canes, I found ticks on my hair and scalpline several weeks in a row. So gross!! I once was diagnosed with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Antibiotics are good, but bad for my rectum (sorry for too much information) – all in my family are sensitive to antibiotics – which is a good thing I think.

Long story short, I’ve been to a dermatologist (took a hunk of skin out of my back) and my nurse practitioner. Dermatologist says I have Grover’s Disease and that doesn’t ring true to me.
I have not eaten grains since May based on the recommendations of a live blood cell analysis.

After reading your post here today I figure my “rash” has come on strong after I eat grains: 4th of July I ate a hot dog with a bun. Labor Day weekend, same story.

I know there is a connection between diet and health. Just never connected the dots between diet and skin.
    Thank You.

    Hello Clare,
You know, I never thought of the GMO pollen.. My youngest daughter and I suffer from bad allergies and they have been worse the last few seasons and sounds like this could be the culprit. Worse headaches I have ever experienced from allergies this year. Thanks for the info.. I also agree, as I get crazy reactions to about every packaged food I consume, from the swollen face, hands and feet to the headaches and severe bloating. So hard to eat healthy when every product is invaded with these additives.

Thanks, always, FW and commentors. ‘Way back when canola first came out, it hit my normally fine stomach like a lead golfball, and no question what it was. I was grateful this made me chary of all GMOs, so had the skinny on HFCs,aspartame, sucralose. However, if you “eat clean” it only takes a little bit you may have missed in the philadelphia lawyer ingredient list. For a while I thought well a little MSG is okay, you gotta eat something. WRONG. My reaction to small amount of GMO is always the same: wake up at 3 a.m. with dramatic itchies from scalp to toes, fortunately it subsides.

Since I worked in medical field, reminder. It is not the substance at “first blush”,it is the antibodies you generate from it. Thus it can take coupla exposures to cause our system to go ballistic. The good news is your immune system is still working bigtime. Bad news, I honestly think a good immune system recognizes every damn GMO as an invader, so sooner or later it gets you.

Note to fellow suffer’ers. This fall I was hit with my first reaction to blowing GMO pollen. Have avoided airborne allergies for decades. Oops, it’s no longer a ground war, they’ve taken to the air. (need to get a mask on that Farm Wars kitty!!)

I agree totally with Lynn!! However as the Bible declares, “These things MUST come to pass, but WOE to those who commit these atrocities”. A bit paraphrased but you get the idea. There is no stopping the beast machine, it will run it’s course then be judged with much wrath. My only advice is to fall into the hands of the Lord before it’s too late people, time is getting shorter each day.. I too am sensitive to this GMO crap, but it is in literally everything, not just canned/pre-packaged products, as it has invaded about every farm in the world from what I have gathered. The Bible also tells that no one will be able to buy or sell without the “mark”, so look at how the corporations are lobbying to ban naturally produced foods?? Even the unbelieving should see what is happening.. They are killing off the poor, which is about everyone NOT linked to corporate amerika, look at the unemployment rates and the deteriorating wages folks.. We are all poor now!!!!!! Lord have mercy on us all!!!

I was given two tests that indicated i was negative for celiac. so it is not celiac for me. In have had 8 years of diarrhea. I have adrenal fatigue and an ulcer from that. I have recenty discovered that I do get diarrhea quicker form fruits though, trying to keep my fructose form even fruit below 25 grams per day, I never used to be intolerant to fruit. Am constantly forming gallstones, must flush them out daily (vinegar).

  7. Lisa Nerone says:

This may sound silly, but I think part of our greater problem is that it is ONLY those of us whom suffer from something ignored or undiagnosable to modern doctors that go out and look for ourselves for what the cause could be. None of my friends or family whom don’t have any health concerns are at all interested in GMO or chemical ingredients in the food supply. They couldn’t care less. I’m only aware because I’ve always had hives that come and go, sometimes they stay. And, I’ve always had digestive difficulties. Also a myriad of other life disturbing health issues, none of which any doctor (in 2 differant countries) could diagnose or help. This has caused me to read everything I could find on nutrition, chemicals, additives, environment, and ultimately, politics and the UN. It really does come down to ‘follow the money’. Aside from all this, thank you Barbara for being able to write such clearly understandable articles on issues that MUST matter to all of us.

  8. Barbara Talbert says:

Since more and more people are being found to have celiac disease I would guess that GMO’s are the problem behind the problem. Digestion does not stop in the stomach and intestine. The complement immune system resides in our blood where some of our digestion finishes up. It quite literally does not know what to do with the rogue genes and tries to expel them through the skin. On the other hand they are affecting the cotton farmers from the outside. Also much of chemical fertilizers are pelleted with chitin from the shells of crab and lobsters. In fact chitin is in many things today and has become quite pervasive in our society. It is used as a coating in paper, in medical devices and bandages, and as a sizing for fabrics which does not wash out very well. I could tell which fabrics as I immediately became itchy when I wore those clothes. I also know when I have eaten something GMO as I begin to itch.
My personal opinion is that chitin causes an immune response in our bodies to the lower orders of life which could threaten us. We are, however, not accustomed to producing chitinase in the quantities that we need today for our bodies to handle all that chitin or chitosan.
The gist of this is that the genes of most of the creatures that GMO’s are bio-engineered with are chitin producing so we are getting some of their traits in our blood. I know there are scientists that say this cannot happen but I think it can.

  9. Lynn says:

The photos of the cotton worker’s skin condition bring to mind the “grievous sore” of the end times mentioned in the Book of Revelations. Makes perfect sense along with all the famine, plagues and death that it foretells, which may very well be a future result of widespread genetically modified crops. I’m sure that these crops are what’s killing off all the bees as well.

  10. Hazel,

It was definitely traced to GMOs. I eat my own wheat bread now, drink goat’s milk, cane sugar, honey, and every time I start to have a reaction, I can trace it back to some sort of ingredient that was genetically engineered.

  11. Hazel says:

I had the same thing in 2006 and suffered for almost year before figuring out it was dermatitis herpetaformis. A small percentage of the people with Celiac get this. I quit gluten and it went right away. Haven’t touched gluten since and haven’t had it since.

Maybe not, maybe yours is GMO’s but thought I’d mention it just in case.

  12. Great work in so much less time, unbelievable salute to you Barbara and lots of hugs.
People must know the truth and that flows through your pen so fast and fluid.

    salute again
