Farm Wars

With help from the FDA and USDA, the biotech industry is set to completely take over our food supply with genetically modified ingredients, irrespective  of the wishes of “we the people.” Through collusion, subterfuge, and a bit of back-door manipulation, Monsanto can write it’s own ticket with the U.S. Federal Government’s stamp of approval. If the rules get in the way, then change the rules, or at least their interpretation, to fit the situation.

Monsanto is now ready to grow soybeans that are genetically modified to produce omega-3 fatty acids. The fact that the company is doing this comes as no surprise, but the important thing to note is the process that the FDA goes through to approve these types of substances as Generally Recognized as Safe, or GRAS, is to simply rubber-stamp the Monsanto application, no questions asked. 

The biotechnology firm Monsanto stands just one FDA approval away from growing soybeans that have been genetically modified to produce those omega-3 fatty acids that doctors are always recommending. (Forbes)

Here is a quote from the FDA GRAS approval letter recently sent to Monsanto for its new soy invention:

Based on the information provided by Monsanto, the agency has no questions at this time regarding Monsanto’s conclusion that SDA soybean oil is GRAS under the intended conditions of use. The agency has not, however, made its own determination regarding the GRAS status of the subject use of SDA soybean oil. As always, it is the continuing responsibility of Monsanto to ensure that food ingredients that the firm markets are safe, and are otherwise in compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements. According to the FDA site, this is how the FDA’s GRAS Notification Program works:

The GRAS notification program provides a voluntary mechanism whereby a person may inform FDA of a determination that the use of a substance is GRAS, rather than petition FDA to affirm that the use of a substance is GRAS. (FDA)

Monsanto does its own tests, determines its products are GRAS, and the FDA rubber stamps the results, no questions asked.

Here is a list of products that this new soy product will be put in:

The subject of the notice is stearidonic acid (SDA) soybean oil. The notice informs FDA of the view of Monsanto Company (Monsanto) that SDA soybean oil is GRAS, through scientific procedures, for use as an ingredient in baked goods and baking mixes, breakfast cereals and grains, cheeses, dairy product analogs, fats and oils, fish products, frozen dairy desserts and mixes, grain products and pastas, gravies and sauces, meat products, milk products, nuts and nut products, poultry products, processed fruit juices, processed vegetable products, puddings and fillings, snack foods, soft candy, and soups and soup mixes, at levels that will provide 375 milligrams (mg) of SDA per serving.1 (FDA)

Notice that fish, nuts and soy are already high in omega-3 fatty acids. Why is Monsanto creating a product to “boost” these already high content items with something that they do not need more of? Could it be so that Monsanto can claim even a larger percentage of the processed food chain? It seems that oil from this new and improved soybean is scheduled to be included in just about every processed food item on the shelf.

This is nothing short of a complete takeover by Monsanto and the biotech industry of what was left of any non-GMO processed foods still remaining on the shelves, with the FDA paving the way through collusion and subterfuge.

But the FDA is not the only government arm that is making things easy for Monsanto. Recently, GMO Alfalfa and Sugar Beets were called off the market pending an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) by the USDA. These GMO crops are currently available for spring planting, but it was a nuisance to deal with pesky court issues. So, what does the USDA do?

To satisfy the legal system’s pesky demand for environmental impact studies of novel GMO crops, the USDA has settled upon a brilliant solution: let the GMO industry conduct its own environmental impact studies, or pay other researchers to. The USDA announced the program in the Federal Register for April 7, 2011 [PDF]. (Grist)

It appears that instead of a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, our Federal Government should more accurately be described as a government of Monsanto, by Monsanto, and for Monsanto.

    Barbara may have left out a few more Monsanto enablers like Farm Bureau, NCBA, Natl. Pork, the check offs, and of course the peoples own Land Grant system. sa Ks.

    Many good suggestions made here but don’t forget this. The Fed is the thing that really matters. The power to create money out of thin air has to belong strictly to the People. Once any private group is granted this power (debt monopoly), for starters they can over time simply write checks to buy out anything and everything in the whole country that really matters, including the government itself. Think what you could accomplish if you had your own private money printing press and you could just “counterfeit” your own money any time you wanted to buy anything or anybody. Or you could just write any number on a piece of paper and then legitimately loan it out and collect interest on it. The central bank is literally a magic wand. When the People of USA lost this amazing and ultimate power in 1913 they became gholems (abject slaves) and we are now seeing the result. We must either take this power back or die trying or remain the walking dead forever. Once we take our rightful power back, all the other reforms discussed here become possible. But we will have to fight for it. It is by far the most valuable asset in our entire known universe. Logically, it will be taken back by force or not at all. The gangsters that possess it are not going to just give back what they have stolen from us when we ask nicely. It’s up to us what we want to be – free people or eternal ghost-walkers. If you do not know what is written on Andrew Jackson’s head-stone you better find out.

    If we were to do what these “False Profits” do. We would be called criminal/terrorist/treason etc, and made to disappear. My take on Monsanto’s name is it is short for their belief. In multi-languages (speaking in tounges).

It’s the only way to restore this Republic to it’s original intent and ONLY with the full CONSENT of those wishing to be governed. Death to the CORPORATION!

    I encourage each and every one of you to learn American History. When our forefathers fought for independence, they were fighting for freedom from the oppressive British Government and the Corporation (East India Company) it had created to mine the resources of the American continent. The original Articles of Confederation, ratified in 1781 was a very different document than that which became our Constitution.

    The US Constitution was drafted and signed by a group of Federalist, men who wanted the power to reside in the Federal Government, and was adopted on September 17, 1787, by the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and ratified by conventions in each U.S. state (except NH) in the name of “The People”. The Bill of Rights was created as a way to get most of the States to ratify it, as it did not protect the rights of individuals in its original form.

    Part of the structure of the newly formed Government was the Supreme Court, so named because the Court and the Justices within had “supreme” authority.

    Over the next 200 years, a series of legal decisions by the Supremes have given Corporations “personhood” status by determining that these same Corporations had the same rights granted to citizens, persons, in the Bill of Rights.

    This single repeated act is at the bottom of all the corruption, conflict and destruction of our Country.

    We, as a citizenry, need to take back our country and restore it to the foundational principals originally intended in the Articles of Confederation. We need to demand our “unalienable rights” as sovereign citizens of the USA. It will be necessary to remove personhood rights from corporations.

    Monsanto and their coconspirators the FDA and USDA appear to be turning our inalienable right to purchase, grow and eat clean unadulterated food contaminated by Monsanto’s genetically modified organisms, into an impossibility. Why? Is it for money or power? Or do they have a more sinister agenda?

    Isn’t the FDA the agency that has been attacking doctors that proscribe non FDA approved natural treatments including nutritional supplements ?

    Isn’t it the USDA that ordered farmers to radiate their raw almonds? And doesn’t radiation of our foods destroy its Vitamin content? And didn’t the FDA order this radiation once they found out the public was eating Raw almonds, with it’s high B17 content, as a natural cure for cancer?

    And wasn’t it Congress, who took an oath to protect and defend our God given rights from enemies both foreign and domestic, that drafted, introduced and passed the food fascism bill?

    As we survey the nation we have become are we willing to go along to get along or are we going to to respond with the wisdom and courage contained in our Declaration of Independence?

    To all those who upbraided me for using it, here is something from The Free Dictionary online:

    Usage Note: Irregardless is a word that many mistakenly believe to be correct usage in formal style, when in fact it is used chiefly in nonstandard speech or casual writing. Coined in the United States in the early 20th century, it has met with a blizzard of condemnation for being an improper yoking of irrespective and regardless and for the logical absurdity of combining the negative ir- prefix and -less suffix in a single term. Although one might reasonably argue that it is no different from words with redundant affixes like debone and unravel, it has been considered a blunder for decades and will probably continue to be so.”

    So, there you have it. May this controversy rest in peace.

    re: irregardless…….. SNL did a skit using the word years ago… Ben Affleck and the Rachel person who was originally from Boston. Many, many older and last generation Bostonians used that “word”. I remember hearing it when someone was expressing their anger. Very funny memories of the Olde Boston English…. which had a tremendous amount of Irish influence, of course.

    There is so much shit going down in the world from Fukushima and the Gulf Oil Spill to Monsanto’s apparent ownership of the Unted States and other world governments, to the ubiquity of nanotechnology (atomic sized silver particles etc) now put in hundreds of products from food to socks even though science has clearly shown that they will cross the blood/brain barrier (Dubya, in his wisdom decided that they did not need to be labeled and we certainly don’t need to know about them), to pesticides and herbicides sprayed everywhere and on and on and on.

    Soybeans, if not fermented, require high temperatures and pressures and harsh alkalies to render them into the “food” products you see on store shelves. These industrial processes will render the omega 3 fatty acids denatured and consequently of no nutritional value, if not dentrimental to human and animal health.

    GRAS was used by the chem cos to get a pile of untested for safety products into our personal care and home care products. when 2,000 were privatelty tested 800 were found to be of concern.
    did the makers agree to use safer alternatives?

    Jesse Ventura proposes that we vote for anyone but Republicans or Democrats, to send a clear message that we want the corrupt politicians out of Congress and the WH. I don’t know if that will work, and I doubt enough people will try it to make a difference. Jesse also mentioned that he would consider running with Ron Paul if Paul ran for president (not as a Republican). That would be really something! Most of Congress work for whoever pays them the most, and that is not the citizen voters. Our political process is badly broken and we need to clean out government. How to do it? Articles like this are good at presenting information about how corrupt things have become, but don’t most folks already know that? How about including steps we can take that will make a difference? We need a large number of people to believe they can make a difference, then they will act – as evidenced by the election of the biggest liars I’ve ever seen: Obama and the Dem’s in Congress.
