monsantopoly

By Barbara H. Peterson

Monsanto is not only overtly taking over the seed market, but covertly also. Did you know that Seminis, “the largest developer, grower and marketer of fruit and vegetable seeds in the world,” is owned by Monsanto? Here is a blurb from the company website:

Seminis sells vegetable seeds in more than 155 countries. In addition to the corporate site, we have 10 regional/country-specific Web sites with useful information about local products and contact information….Seminis’ parent company, Monsanto, announced plans to acquire Netherlands-based vegetable seeds company, De Ruiter Seeds. LINK

Seminis is a wholesaler, so chances are if you purchase seeds at your local store, or website, the company will have purchased seeds from Seminis/Monsanto.

Seminis offers more than 3,000 seed varieties in 25 fruit and vegetable crops. We do not work with tree fruit, grapes, berries, potatoes and other crops that are plant propagated. (seminis.com)

The company is very proud of their seedless varieties of watermelon and peppers. And why shouldn’t it be? No seeds, no seed saving.

The Urban Crop Circles Forum is currently doing some research on seed companies that are either owned by Monsanto, or selling Monsanto seeds, or both. The link to the forum is HERE.

The following U.S. dealers stock Seminis/Monsanto seeds for the home gardener:

This list was taken from the Seminis site. You can find the full contact information on these dealers HERE. To find the home garden dealers for the rest of the world, go HERE.

Here is a LINK to the network of seed dealers, distributors, and wholesalers that market Seminis/Monsanto seeds to the retail outlets and professional grower. The list is too extensive to print here.

The Seminis patents, located HERE, are mainly for hybrids and cross-breeding to develop certain traits. With Monsanto in the mix however, I expect we can see some changes. Here is a LINK to the 4,336 Monsanto patents.

When you buy seeds, make sure they are heirloom seeds, and not hybrid or genetically modified. Check out the companies, and if they purchase their seeds from Seminis, find another company because you are supporting Monsanto when you buy their products. Save the seeds from your heirloom crops and start your own seed bank, because very soon, clean seeds will be unavailable unless they come from you or your neighbor. It is up to us to do the research, ask the questions, then follow through by action. Boycott Monsanto/Seminis seeds.

Keep up the good fight! More need to be educated about the evils of Monsanto

Monsanto’s Monopoly has crippled farmers, poisoned people, and wreaked havoc on our ecosystem. However — the patent on their GMO seeds will soon expire. We have a tremendous opportunity to change farming forever.

Will Monsanto succeed with their new GMO seeds?

Or will farmers and eaters join the countdown to independence and prevent another Monsantopoly? Let’s give ourselves a reason to celebrate.

i just saw a video “The Future of Food” that was available at the California State University Library. This is what drew our interest to looking up your website. We are planning to start a small home farm business of our own and this was very angering. Along with joining your cause, how could we gather enough interest to make manufacturers [Monsanto] of GMO foods label their food products. This campaign to label foods was started by a young mother in the Northern US and then Monsannto, with their large bankroll obliterated her campaign. Nobody I talk to know about this. I am spreading the word.

Jeffrey, here is a good article that demonstrates that organically cultured bees are surviving the Colony Collapse Disorder:

http://www.thehoneybeeproject.com/article9.html Unfortunately it doesn’t directly investigate RoundUp.

Here’s another article that poses a compelling theory that High Fructose Corn Syrup (70%-90% Monsanto GMO’s) is poisoning bee populations.

No glyphosate research seems to be published online.

    You rock Barbara!

  6. Hometown Seeds has been removed from the site. Scott informed me that unfortunately, all of his inventory is purchased and he cannot make any changes. This is truly unfortunate, and we can only hope that in the future, Hometown Seeds will join in the fight against corporate evil such as Monsanto, but until then, hasta la vista, baby!

A big thanks to Perry, who did the legwork on this one, and exposed Hometown Seeds’ connections to Monsanto through Seminis Seeds.

  7. I received an immediate response from Scott from Hometown Seeds:

    Barbara,

Thanks for the heads up. We are looking in to it.

  8. I reposted this to the front page. Thanks to Perry, Hometown seeds has been connected to a couple of tomato varieties produced by Seminis Seeds. I sent this e-mail to Hometown:

    Hi Scott,

I just received this comment from a reader on Farm Wars:

“I would like to point out the “Hometown Seeds” company advertised on this website sells Big Beef and Celebrity tomato seeds which are 2 varieties that belong to Seminis which is a seed conglomerate owned by Monsanto.”

Are you aware of this connection? Please consider severing your Monsanto connections, as I am currently endorsing a ban on all Monsanto products, including their acquisitions’ products such as Seminis Seeds.

Here is an article regarding the connection:

    Ooooops! LABORATORY …. NOT LAVATORY…..

  10. JEFFREY LEAR says:

I FIND IT SUSPICIOUS THAT IF ROUNDUP ACTUALLY KILLED FROGS AND HUMAN CELLS… IT’S DAMN WELL POSSIBLE THAT THIS IS THE SAME NEMESIS THAT’S WIPING OUT OUR HONEY BEES.

I HAVE NO WAY OF TESTING THIS HYPOTHESIS BUT I WISH SOME WELL FUNDED LAVATORY COULD DO AN IN DEPTH STUDY (BEE AUTOPSY). OUR HONEY BEES ARE THE BACKBONE OF REPRODUCTION IN ALL PLANT SPECIES. PERHAPS THIS IS A SUBVERSIVE AND INTENTIONAL TARGETING OF THE NATURAL PROCESSES BY MONSANTO.

WHEN ALL THE BEES ARE EXTINCT, WE’LL HAVE TO BUY TRIPLOID (STERILE) SEEDS TO GROW OUR BACKYARD GARDENS…. AND THEN WE’D NOT EVEN OWN OUR HOME GROWN CROP BECAUSE IT’S PATENTED! MOST OF, IF NOT ALL, OF THEIR SEEDS PRODUCE SEEDLESS VEGETABLES AND STERILE FRUIT SEEDS.

WHAT A SCAM! BUY HEIRLOOM SEEDS ONLY. CREATE A SEED BANK!

  11. If anyone wants to bring down the likes of Monsanto and make the world safe for organic farming, the means do exist. A revolution is getting started that no one ever expected. Quoting a review of the Final Frreedoms:

“For those individuals who can set their sights and measure progress above the existing political status quo, who are able to think for themselves and imagine outside the historical cultural box, who are willing to learn something new and stand against the stream of fashionable thought and spin, an intellectual and moral revolution has already started with the most potent Non Violent Direct Action any human being can take for peace, justice, change and progress.”

Check the link, join the revolt: http://www.energon.org.uk

  12. Note:

Just checked the Monsanto patents. Since I posted the article on March 19, the Monsanto patents have grown to 4,341. That’s 5 patents in 3 business days. A few days before I wrote the article, they only had 4,328 patents. Working overtime, aren’t they…
