Repeated inquiries have gone unanswered and posters censored on the Factor GMO blog regarding the “transparency” of this study. This begs the question – Is Factor GMO really the answer to our prayers for a truly unbiased GMO and Glyphosate safety study, or just another paper-pushing shill study rubber-stamped by the likes of Monsanto?

Factor GMO

Here is information about the study from the Factor GMO website:

The ‘Factor GMO’ study will investigate the health effects of glyphosate, Roundup and a GM maize variety that has been in our food and animal feed supplies for many years. It will answer the question: Is this GM maize variety and glyphosate/Roundup safe for human health?

‘Factor GMO’ will be the largest and most detailed long-term experiment ever conducted on glyphosate and Roundup. It will add invaluable data of unprecedented power to enable regulators, governments and the general public of every country to answer the question: Are glyphosate herbicides harmful at real world levels of consumption/exposure?

The three arms of the experiment will enable vital questions to be answered, such as:

  • Is the GM food or glyphosate toxic to organ systems over the long-term?
  • Does the GM food or glyphosate certainly cause cancer?
  • Does the GM food or glyphosate reduce fertility or cause birth defects?
  • Is the mixture of chemicals present in ‘Roundup’ herbicide more or less toxic than its active ingredient glyphosate?

This study will be first ever to have a comprehensive multi-generational arm – this will be the first study to thoroughly test for effects on reproductive capability and incidence of birth defects of GMOs and glyphosate/Roundup.

The study will also establish a new, higher standard for the rigorous testing of glyphosate and Roundup that will be applicable world-wide.

The full data and results of the study will be made publicly available.

The questions we want answered regarding this study are very simple really, and ones that a totally “transparent” endeavor should be more than happy to address:

  1. What is the rodent control group being fed?
  2. What has the rodent control group been fed prior to the study, and for how long?
  3. Is and has the control group feed been tested for the presence of Glyphosate?

Why are these questions being ignored? I have personally sent emails to the following people listed on the Factor GMO contact page:

Ivan Lambert – ivanlambert@factorgmo.com

Nadya Novoselova – novoselova@factorgmo.com

They have not responded to several requests for the information via email and the Factor GMO blog.

Jon Abrahamson has also attempted to contact the Factor GMO people regarding this and has been ignored and downright censored from the blog. Here is a letter from him to the Attorney General of Minnesota:

Dear Atty. Gen. Swanson, and Staff:

I’ve been researching GMO foods and food in general since Jan. 2009, well over 6 years now. To say the food system is broken or better yet, rigged, is an understatement. In the last 6 years I have contributed to numerous articles, a couple of documentaries, co-authored, peer reviewed, and published in the Journal of Organic Science. I’ve received no compensation for any of this; therefore I have no vested interest other than my own concerns for the personal health of the public including myself. I don’t consider myself an expert, but I am more knowledgeable than the average Minnesotan. The Bio-techs do their own study, usually 1 – 3 months long. NOT THE FDA! They are kept secret, and no matter what they find, they call it safe and send it off to the FDA for a rubber stamp.

What I would like to see is an immediate ban on all GMOs including cotton products, drugs, vaccines, vitamins, supplements, as well as food. To be approved in Minnesota I would like to see a long term (one year), independent study on the effect on our health. To the best of my knowledge there have only been 2 long term studies, Seralini’s 2 year study on NK-603 maize on rats, and Carmen’s 7 month study on GMO pig feed (soy and corn). I’ve included the two research papers, and Seralini’s video GMO Global alert.

A few years ago, Dr. Nancy Swanson asked me to help her research for a series of articles on GMOs she published in the Seattle Examiner to inform voters on the I-522 GMO labeling bill. Interestingly enough, before her series of articles was even done, our charts and graphs were showing up on health sites all over the world. After a lot of pressure from around the world, she was talked into making this series of articles into a peer reviewed and published research paper. No one was paid for the articles or the paper. It is true that correlation doesn’t prove causation, but the numbers do show something is seriously wrong, and need to be looked at in depth.

Also a Dr. in the Documentary BOUGHT made the comment that this study was the scariest thing he’d ever seen in his career:

Despite what the Bio-Techs say, there are close to 2,000 peer reviewed papers showing that this technology in its current form isn’t safe. This is a list from GMO Free USA:

GMO SCIENCE – STUDIES & RESEARCH

I became aware of a study called FACTOR GMO .This study is being coordinated by the Russian non-government organization National Association for Genetic Safety (NAGS) . The study is supposed to answer once and for all the safety of GMO foods. I went to their web site to check it out. I left one comment, and one question about the study. My question was censored. My only logical guess was they didn’t want people to know of a potentially serious flaw in the study.

FACTOR GMO

http://factorgmo.com/en/

The first part of my question was about the mice in the study. Were all the mice in the study fed GMO or certified organic foods before the study, and if organic, how many generations were fed organically?

The second part of my question was regarding the certification of the lab animals (mice), and their food in this study, and if it was like the way they do it in the USA? The USA studies are rigged, because the toxins checked for don’t include Glyphosate and Glufosinate. I discussed this with Dr. Anthony Samsel, and this was his response:

Hi Jon,

I talked to EPA and USDA years ago about this subject, because they don’t test for glyphosate or glufosinate in the diet of all lab animals, this includes food and water. Neither do they test for it in the food supply of Americans. I also wrote to researchers of a recent study in Egypt and inquired if they tested the diet of their lab rats and mice. The answer was no. I told them their study was invalid because industrial agriculture is a two part system of plants and chemicals – both have effects, which should be tested. Additionally, the surfactants should be tested because it’s the surfactant system that determines the efficiency of the herbicide …….

The EPA recently wrote and told my Senator that I was wrong about glyphosate, that it does not function at the molecular level.

Complete and total idiots at the agency…..

Anthony

I found a lab animal supplier’s web site and thought I’d check out the critters’ certified diets.

My first question:

  1. What are standard diets?

Their answer:

A more complete name would be Standard Natural-Ingredient Diets. These diets are manufactured in large quantities (at least 2 tons) and stocked at one or more Harlan Teklad distribution centers. Standard natural ingredient diets are readily available and can generally be delivered within a few days after an order is placed. These diets primarily contain grains (corn, wheat), legumes (soybean meal) and to a lesser extent ingredients such as fish meal, and meat and bone meal. Standard natural ingredient diets in Global and Traditional diets are available Irradiated and/or Certified. (Jon’s note: Being that isn’t Certified USDA Organic, it would be very safe to assume it’s GMO)

  1. This sparks another question. What are certified diets?

Their answer:

Certified diets are diets that have been tested for a standard panel of environmental contaminants that are known to be capable of interfering with a study. These diets help ensure that a study complies with the FDA’s Good Laboratory Practices regulations requiring periodic feed analysis. A Harlan Laboratories certificate of analysis signed by a nutritionist is made available to the customer. For more information see Certified Diets.

  1. Next thought – What is the standard panel of environmental contaminants?

Their answer:

Contaminant Maximum Acceptable Limit Unit Arsenic 1.00 ppm Cadmium 0.50 ppm Lead 1.50 ppm Mercury 0.20 ppm Selenium 0.50 ppm Aflatoxin B1, B2, G1, G2 5.00 ppb Aldrin 0.03 ppm Lindane 0.05 ppm Chlordane 0.05 ppm DDT & related substances 0.15 ppm Dieldrin 0.03 ppm Endrin 0.03 ppm Heptachlor 0.03 ppm Heptachlor Epoxide 0.03 ppm Toxaphene 0.15 ppm PCB’s 0.15 ppm a-BHC 0.05 ppm b-BHC 0.05 ppm d-BHC 0.05 ppm Hexachlorobenzene 0.03 ppm Mirex 0.02 ppm Methoxychlor 0.50 ppm Thimet 0.50 ppm Diazinon 0.50 ppm Disulfaton 0.50 ppm Methyl Parathion 0.50 ppm Malathion 0.50 ppm Parathion 0.50 ppm Thiodan 0.50 ppm Ethion 0.50 ppm Trithion 0.50 ppm

Glyphosate is not included in the “standard panel of environmental contaminants!”

They use Round-Up so much now that it’s actually in the rain and air.

Glyphosate and disease

The connection between glyphosate and chronic disease has been outlined in a recent review paper by Samsel & Seneff (2013). The authors show how glyphosate disrupts the metabolic process by interfering with the Cytochrome P450 (CYP) pathways. The CYP is known as a super-family of enzymes that are present in most tissues of the body. They are responsible for around 75% of the reactions involved in drug metabolism and the oxidation of organic molecules. According to the authors, “glyphosate enhances the damaging effects of other food borne chemical residues and environmental toxins.”

http://www.cornucopia.org/entropy-15-01416_Glyphosate.pdf

Glyphosate is a known chelator

Glyphosate was first patented as a chelator in 1964 by Stauffer Chemical Co. (cleaning rust and scale from water pipes). It was patented by Monsanto and introduced as an herbicide in 1974. According to Dr. Huber, an award-winning scientist and professor emeritus of plant pathology at Purdue University for the past 35 years, “It’s important to realize that glyphosate is not ‘just’ an herbicide. It was first patented as a *mineral chelator*. It immobilizes nutrients, so they’re not physiologically available for your body.” He says Glyphosate is also patented as an antibiotic: “When you take the good bacteria out, then the bad bacteria fill that void, because there aren’t any voids in nature. We have all of these gut-related problems, whether it’s autism, leaky gut, C. difficile diarrhea, gluten intolerance, or any of the other problems. All of these diseases are an expression of disruption of that intestinal microflora that keeps you healthy.”

Below is a breaking interview between Dr. Anthony Samsel and Tony Mitra. I just now found out I was wrong about the time frame of the corporate studies. Some were actually 26 months long. But those studies were to be kept secret.

Published on May 25, 2015

Dr. Anthony Samsel got the US-EPA to reopen files containing safety tests on Glyphosate that had been sealed since 1981 as “Trade Secret” on request of Monsanto.

In those files of thousands of pages of data, Dr. Samsel found enough evidence that prompts him to say that Glyphosate is not just a “probable” carcinogen – it is unequivocally a carcinogen.

He is legally bound not to show the documents to anybody, but is allowed to say what he feels about them.

Samsel on Glyphosate safety tests – Part 1 & 2

My Conclusion

Due to corruption at the federal and state levels, the only way we can safeguard our health is through legal actions. We are being made sick and infertile. EXTERMINATED! I’m well connected with numerous expert scientists and researchers all over the world now. I am also a Volunteer Content Curator for the Institute for Responsible Technology. Because of the seriousness, I’d freely give all my efforts towards any legal action. GMOs need to be immediately banned until proven safe.

Jon Abrahamson

Touched by GlyphosateWe live in a world where just about everything has been touched by Glyphosate. In fact, Glyphosate has become so pervasive in our ecosystem that even the tests we use to determine its harmful effects have most likely not escaped contamination.

We are, and ever will be, destined to eat, drink and breathe this deadly, toxic brew, courtesy of Monsanto and the U.S. federal government, just as long as we put up with it and continue to be led like sheep to the slaughter by multi-national corporations and their “scientist” lackeys, who pollute the very foundation of real science by turning a blind eye and not testing for Glyphosate pollution in supposedly “unbiased” experiments.

The question we must ask ourselves is if it is possible that we just may be experiencing the same type of test manipulation in Glyphosate safety trials as was uncovered by Dr. Tenpenny in her explosive video detailing how vaccine trials were performed with the placebo containing the same levels of aluminum/mercury as in the vaccines. If so, then this is a systemic problem throughout the scientific community. Quite possibly, as pervasive as Glyphosate contamination in our food supply.

no evil final

If this is not a case of “see no Glyphosate, hear no Glyphosate, speak no Glyphosate,” then why won’t the people from the Factor GMO safety trial answer our questions regarding feed to be used in the control group? Or if the control group was fed Glyphosate-laced feed, most likely containing GMOs as well, to begin with? Or are they simply relying on testing or the lack thereof, done by the US because of an agreement between countries to accept each others’ data?

Mutual Acceptance of Data (MAD)

The testing of chemicals is labour-intensive and expensive. Often the same chemicals are being tested and assessed in several countries. The OECD Council therefore adopted a Council Decision* in 1981 – on Mutual Acceptance of Data (MAD) – stating that test data generated in any member country in accordance with OECD Test Guidelines and Principles of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) shall be accepted in other member countries for assessment purposes and other uses relating to the protection of human health and the environment.

A further Council Act was adopted in 1989 to provide assurance that the data are indeed developed in compliance with the Principles of GLP.  This Council Decision-Recommendation on Compliance with GLP establishes procedures for monitoring GLP compliance through government inspections and study audits as well as a framework for international liaison among monitoring and data-receiving authorities.

A 1997 Council Decision on the Adherence of Non-Member countries to the Council Acts related to the Mutual Acceptance of Data in the Assessment of Chemicals sets out a step-wise procedure for non-OECD countries to take part as full members in this system.

http://www.oecd.org/env/ehs/testing/mutualacceptanceofdatamad.htm

Shouldn’t control group feed be independently tested and certified Glyphosate-free to get accurate results in a test for Glyphosate toxicity?

No testing for Glyphosate

The U.S. government, which annually tests thousands of foods for pesticide residues, does not test for glyphosate, in part because it has been considered safe.

That could change, the EPA said in a statement Friday.

“Given increased public interest in glyphosate, EPA may recommend sampling for glyphosate in the future,” the agency said in an email response to a Reuters inquiry.

Monsanto Co, the maker of Roundup, on April 1 posted a blog seeking to reassure consumers about glyphosate residues, saying trace amounts are safe. It did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The EPA said the ultimate decision rests with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and its Pesticide Data Program. In the past, the EPA had advised the USDA that “glyphosate residues do not pose a risk to human health,” the EPA said.

However, Peter Wood, spokesman for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, said the “EPA makes the determination which commodities and pesticides are tested.” He said that sampling is based on EPA “data needs” and EPA has so far not requested glyphosate testing on any commodity.

http://www.ibtimes.com/us-regulators-may-recommend-testing-food-glyphosate-residues-1887386#.VTOrBuh6PnY.facebook

Safe? Seriously? So no testing required on any commodity? How would you know if it was tainted if you don’t even test for it?

Are we going down the same road with Glyphosate as we did with the PCB debacle?

…as the company’s own documents show, Monsanto went to extraordinary efforts to keep the public in the dark about PCBs, and even manipulated scientific studies by urging scientists to change their conclusions to downplay the risks of PCB exposure. Monsanto’s conduct, throughout the entire period that the company made PCBs, was less than commendable. Their attempts today to backpedal on the science and shirk responsibility for the global saturation of PCBs is equally discouraging, as are their repeated attempts to “green” their image with flashy, expensive PR campaigns.

Today Monsanto does not deny that everyone is contaminated with PCBs. They argue instead that since they have contaminated the entire planet they are innocent of all liability.

http://www.chemicalindustryarchives.org/dirtysecrets/annistonindepth/toxicity.asp

Let’s just do a little comparison by substituting the word “PCBs” from the Chemical Industry Archives article with the word “Glyphosate:”

PCBs

Monsanto polluted the world with PCBs, manipulated scientific studies, denied any wrongdoing, and used flashy PR campaigns to convince people of its safety.

Results: Global pollution by PCBs along with accompanying “neurotoxicity, reproductive and developmental toxicity, immune system suppression, liver damage, skin irritation, and endocrine disruption (Cogliano 1998; Browner testimony 1998; U.S. EPA 1996; Rice 1995).”

Glyphosate

Monsanto is currently polluting the world with Glyphosate, manipulating scientific studies, denying any wrongdoing, and using flashy PR campaigns to convince people of its safety.

Results: Global pollution by Glyphosate along with accompanying neurotoxicity, reproductive and developmental toxicity, immune system suppression, liver damage, skin irritation, and endocrine disruption. (GE Crops, Glyphosate, and the Deterioration of Health in the US)

Coincidence? No. Ongoing pattern of sociopathic behavior by a company controlling the majority of our food supply? Clearly.

It’s in our breast milk, water, air, soil, food, and very soon, if left unchecked, there will be no life left untouched by Glyphosate. Maybe the next “Chemical Industry” article will read:

Today Monsanto does not deny that everyone is contaminated with Glyphosate. They argue instead that since they have contaminated the entire planet they are innocent of all liability.

Not to mention the rampant spread and takeover of transgenes from the irresponsible outdoor cultivation of genetically engineered organisms, courtesy of Monsanto, of course!

Is this what we want? Is wholesale contamination of everything on earth what we signed up for when we simply wanted to make our lives easier by trusting Monsanto to kill our weeds? Are we now paying the piper for our thoughtlessness? Do we really want to keep allowing Monsanto to get away with this?

Elena Sharoykina, the initiator of the world’s largest ever GMO and pesticide safety study, Factor GMO, stated:

“Most people eat food produced using glyphosate herbicide: this chemical has been used widely for over 40 years. The WHO’s verdict proves that it is necessary to apply the precautionary principle with regards to glyphosate. We call upon the general public worldwide to support comprehensive long-term studies on glyphosate and its commercial formulations as sold and used, including carcinogenicity, toxicity and multigenerational arms. We need to act fast.”

“The WHO decision has only confirmed the need for global support for the Factor GMO study. Today it is the one and only study that can provide comprehensive information for regulatory agencies, the general public, farmers and politicians worldwide to understand what level of harm glyphosate-based formulations such as Roundup may be causing to living organisms. Other studies that have been planned or that have been published are not nearly as comprehensive as Factor GMO will be.”

If this statement by Elena Sharoykina of Factor GMO is true, then tell us, in no uncertain terms – what will your rodents eat?

Specifically:

  1. What is the rodent control group being fed?
  2. What has the rodent control group been fed prior to the study, and for how long?
  3. Is and has the control group feed been tested for the presence of Glyphosate?

Excellent sleuthing Jon and Barb! The feed is most certainly contaminated with both GMOs (corn and soy) and glyphosate (sprayed on GMO corn and soy; wheat and legumes as a pre-harvest ripening agent). These lab animals should be fed organic feed for several generations before they are allowed into a toxicology experiment. Both the control and the test group should be fed the organic feed. Only then can you control the amount of GMOs and/or glyphosate your test group is receiving. All toxicology tests for glyphosate and GMOs should be thrown out and redone. Period.

  4. Dear Ms Peterson,
Thank you for your detailed and informative article. It will be put to use as we work to educate Iowans about the dangers of GMOs. Just a few block from my house is an elementary school that sits across the street from a soybean field. This is a typical example of life in GMO country.

Each year Occypy the World Food Prize holds counter events during the week of the World Food Prize (WFP) in Des Moines, Iowa. We do not support the WFP’s emphasis on BigAg or their corporate members. Last year our speakers were Dennis and Elizabeth Kucinich. Two days later we held a rally across the street fron the Iowa Capitol building while the invitation only crowd attended the WFP awards ceremony. Three of our members were arrested for crossing onto the Capital grounds.

We are always interested in outside suggestions about how we might become more effective in our efforts to reach the general public. We welcome your ideas.

We all need to spread the news about this and to show how so many of these studies are rigged. Shame on Monsanto, Bayer, Dow and all the others out there like them and their nasty GMOs and chemicals. Shame on them and the government for endorsing the poisoning of people, animals and the planet as a whole.

Stephanie Seneff 2013 “Monsanto American Genocide Project”

Americans get the highest doses. We are especially targeted because Monsanto owns the FDA and Blackwater and controls Congress. The studies Nancy Swanson and Stephanie Seneff have done are what our own government should have done but said Monsanto could do if it felt like it. Now that Monsanto has the results, they are obligated to take glyphosate off the market or be convicted of genocide. In India they were convicted of outrage.
